The democratically controlled congress can't wait to do more business with Cuba. Never mind the total lack of human rights and the suffering of the Cuban people, they are lined up, ready to push through legislation towards "easing" relations with Cuba under the leadership of raul "el asesino" castro.
They talk about a new post fidel Cuba, and toss out sound bites such as, "smooth transition of power", deceptively implying that some great change has occurred in Cuba, that there's no longer a reason for the embargo or travel restrictions, when the opposite is true. raul, "El asesino" castro, an early hard line Marxist, has been fidel's enforcer for 48 years. Ion Mihai Pacepa, a former Soviet intelligence official well acquainted with raul, accurately labels him an "assassin and international terrorist who made a fortune from the illegal sale of arms, drugs, and human beings". The so-called "smooth transition" is anything but; repressive tactics against dissidents has worsened and there has been no democratic reform in Cuba.
Don't forget, El asesino's early contribution to the "revolution" was as a cold-blooded executioner--fidel could always depend on his little bother to get rid of enemies. There is no reason to believe that he won't continue the violent subjugation of Cubans and the perpetuation of castro's "revolution" devoid of all human rights. I'm sure he's thrilled to know that the U.S. Congress supports his efforts.

Ziva,
Thanks for this post! It's ironic that most of these bills are being introduced with the help of Republicans ... when they are the ones "perceived" as hardliners on this matter ... I can't help but think that although working together, Flake and Rangel want this to happen for totally different reasons ... Flake, unfortunately for economic reasons (profit at the expense of morality and integrity), while Rangel has always been a castro apologist and admirer.
I wish you well :) Melek
