U.S. Treasury grants Cuba license to play in World Baseball Classic
From the Miami Herald
The U.S. Treasury Department has cleared the way for Cuba to play in this year's World Baseball Classic, knowledgeable sources told The Miami Herald today.
Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control granted the World Baseball Classic a license that allows the organization to enter into an agreement with Cuba to participate in the tournament. A source on Capitol Hill said that Cuba will not profit from the arrangement.
Major League Baseball and the Players Association organized the World Baseball Classic to be played by 16 teams in March. But the U.S. Treasury Department had recently denied Cuba a necessary license to play because making money in a baseball tournament would violate the U.S. embargo against Cuba.
About 80 members of Congress weighed in, saying that Cuba should be allowed to play ball. MLB officials reapplied last month for the permit that would allow Cuba to join the tournament.
I will never watch another baseball game, not ever.
Now, what we need to do is help the players to defect and not to allow the kagasstro propaganda machine to have an "ideological victory".
We need to re-read the book on defeating Nazi propaganda and use all the experience to destroy the Fuhrer of the Caribbean and his many little personal Goebels, who are in the pay roll of the American Press.

CB-you just know that these players will be surrounded by castro's goons, not to mention the families held hostage back home. I am disgusted.

This is just like bringing a Jewish team from Nazi Germany, with a heavy SS guard, and a blessing from the Fuhrer. Maybe Spielberg is happy, I am not!

Still, I think the idea to help players defect is a good one. If enough did so, the maximum motherf..... might get enraged and paranoid enough to suspend his future dog-and-pony shows. Maybe he might even die in a fit of rage.

Alberto, that would make this bitter pill easier to swallow but I will be amazed if there are any defections. That is if castro actually lets players participate. Right now he has his pr victory, why risk losing games and players to the great northern imperialist beast? If they come, that will tell me that that castro got just the deal he wanted.I see no good coming from this at all. We have been royally screwed, again.
